Beyond the Print: Die-Cutting, Foil Stamping & Finishing at Bincai
If offset printing puts the artwork on paper, die-cutting and finishing give the box its soul. At Bincai’s 18,000 sqm factory (10,000+8,000 smart factory) in Foshan, where 1.7 million color boxes and 220,000+ rigid gift boxes ship daily, the difference between “good enough” and “luxury” lives in fractions of a millimeter — and in the right equipment, operated the right way.
The Die-Cutting Core: Bobst Flatbed Accuracy
After sheets come off our KBA Rapida 1050 and Heidelberg Speedmaster 7+1 UV presses, they enter the die-cutting department. We run Bobst SPeria flatbed die-cutters — the gold standard in paperboard converting:
| Parameter | Specification |
|---|---|
| Maximum sheet size | 1050 × 750 mm |
| Crease depth accuracy | ±0.05 mm |
| Cut registration | ±0.15 mm to print |
| Die life | Up to 1 million impressions between re-sharpening |
| Throughput | 7,500 sheets/hour per machine |
Why Bobst over rotary? Flatbed die-cutting gives us cleaner cuts on heavy greyboard (up to 3.0mm), essential for rigid box trays and magnetic closure bases. Every die is custom-made — laser-cut from 0.71mm or 1.05mm steel rule — specific to your product’s structural design.
Hot Foil Stamping: Heidelberg Cylinder Precision
Nothing communicates “premium” faster than metallic foil on a matte black box. We run Heidelberg cylinder foil stamping machines with:
- Temperature control to ±2°C — critical for consistent foil release on textured papers
- Pressure profiling adjustable per-square-centimeter — prevents crushing embossed areas
- Foil colors: gold, silver, rose gold, copper, holographic, matte metallic, and custom Pantone-matched foils
- Multi-level emboss + foil — raised tactile lettering with foil overlay in a single pass
| Foil Type | Heat Resistance | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Metallic (gold/silver/etc.) | 120°C | Luxury branding, logos, monograms |
| Holographic | 110°C | Security packaging, limited editions |
| Pigment foil | 130°C | Full-color foil blocking, cosmetics |
| Pearlescent | 105°C | Wedding packaging, jewelry boxes |
Embossing & Debossing: Texture You Can Feel
Blind embossing (no foil, just raised/recessed texture) adds dimension without adding cost. Our embossing dies are magnesium or brass — magnesium for short runs (up to 50K), brass for high-volume campaigns:
- Single-level emboss: Raised logo or pattern, 0.3–0.8mm relief
- Multi-level emboss: Sculpted 3D effect with variable depth — used for detailed crests, logos, and artwork
- Registered emboss: Perfectly aligned to print artwork (±0.2mm)
- Combination foil + emboss: Metallic shine with tactile depth in one station
Surface Finishes: Protection Meets Aesthetics
Lamination (Film-Based)
| Type | Thickness | Finish | Durability |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gloss BOPP | 18–25 micron | High-shine, wet-look | Scratch-resistant, waterproof |
| Matte BOPP | 18–25 micron | Non-reflective, elegant | Fingerprint-resistant |
| Soft-touch (velvet) | 25–30 micron | Silky, rubberized grip | Premium tactile experience |
| Anti-scuff matte | 25 micron | Ultra-matte, no glare | Heavy handling resistance |
Spot UV Coating
A high-gloss liquid coating applied to specific areas — logos, product names, design accents — that cures instantly under UV light on our Heidelberg 7+1. The contrast between a spot-UV gloss logo and a matte-laminated background is one of the most requested finishes in cosmetics and electronics packaging.
Aqueous Coating
Water-based coating applied inline during offset printing on the KBA 1050. Available in gloss, matte, and satin finishes. Food-safe formulations available.
Window Patching: See the Product Inside
For folding cartons that need product visibility — tea boxes, chocolate packaging, toy boxes — we apply die-cut PET or PVC windows with:
- Adhesive: Hot-melt or water-based, FSC-compliant options
- Film thickness: 0.2–0.5mm PET (PVC-free available)
- Anti-fog treatment: For refrigerated or frozen food packaging
- Registration: Window aligned to print artwork within ±0.5mm
The QC Chain for Finishing
Every finishing process has its own checkpoint:
- Foil stamping: Coverage inspection under 10× loupe — edge crispness, fill uniformity, no flaking
- Embossing: Depth measured with digital micrometer at 5 points per sheet — tolerance ±0.05mm
- Lamination: Peel-strength tested per ASTM D903 — minimum 2.5 N/cm for BOPP film
- Spot UV: Registration to print checked on every 500th sheet — misalignment >0.3mm triggers adjustment
- Window patching: Pull test on window film — must withstand 15N without delamination
Why This Matters for Your Packaging
A beautifully printed sheet is just the beginning. The die-cutting accuracy, the foil’s reflectivity, the lamination’s tactile quality — these are what a customer feels when they pick up your product. At Bincai, 22 years of finishing expertise means your box looks as good in hand as it does on screen.
22 years. ISO 9001 & FSC certified. 18,000 sqm total factory. 1.7M boxes daily. Every finish inspected.
