Bincai Rigid Hinged-Lid Archival Photo Storage Box

Guangdong Bincai Color Printing Co., Ltd. (founded 2003) delivers museum-grade archival storage boxes engineered for long-term photograph and document preservation. Unlike standard gift boxes, every material in this box — from the grey board core to the covering fabric to the adhesive — is selected and tested for archival safety: acid-free, lignin-free, and pH-neutral (pH 8.0–9.5 buffered with 3% calcium carbonate reserve).

Manufactured in our 18,000 sqm dual-factory in Foshan, Guangdong, the box features a 2–3mm rigid grey board core wrapped in archival-quality book cloth or buckram. The hinged lid is reinforced with metal corners for decades of repeated opening and closing. All adhesives are pH-neutral PVA that passes the PAT (Photographic Activity Test) per ISO 18916 — meaning no chemical interaction that could yellow, fade, or degrade photographic prints, negatives, or documents stored inside. This is the same standard used by the Library of Congress and national archives worldwide.

Key Design Features: Acid-free, lignin-free, pH 8.0–9.5 buffered grey board • Archival book cloth or buckram wrap in museum-standard colors • Metal-reinforced hinged lid for durability • PAT passed adhesive (ISO 18916) • Optional drop-front design for easy access • Custom foil stamping for institution branding.

FAQ

Q: Is this box truly acid-free and safe for long-term photograph storage?

A: Yes. Our archival boxes use grey board that is independently tested for pH (cold extraction, TAPPI T 509) and must meet pH 8.0–9.5 with a minimum 3% calcium carbonate alkaline reserve (TAPPI T 553). The board is verified lignin-free via phloroglucinol stain test on every production lot. The adhesive system has passed ISO 18916 Photographic Activity Test (PAT) — meaning it will not cause staining, fading, or degradation of photographic prints or negatives in contact. This is the same testing standard required by the Library of Congress and national archives.

Q: What’s the difference between this archival box and a regular rigid gift box?

A: Three critical differences: (1) Chemistry — our archival box uses acid-free, lignin-free, pH-buffered board and PAT-passed adhesive; standard gift boxes use regular grey board (often acidic, pH 5.0–6.5, may contain lignin) and standard PVA (not PAT tested); (2) Materials — archival covering fabrics contain no optical brighteners or plasticizers that can off-gas and degrade contents; standard book cloth typically contains both; (3) Testing — archival boxes undergo pH testing, lignin testing, and PAT per lot; standard boxes undergo dimensional and visual QC only. A standard gift box may yellow photographs within 5–10 years; archival boxes preserve them for 100+ years under proper storage conditions.

Q: Can the box be customized with our museum’s logo?

A: Yes. We offer gold or silver foil stamping, blind debossing (no color, just impression), or black foil stamping on the spine and/or front cover. We recommend blind debossing for the most conservative archival approach as it introduces zero chemical materials to the exterior. Foil stamping uses metallic foils that are chemically inert and do not off-gas. We do not use ink-based printing on the box body to avoid any risk of ink migration.

Q: What sizes are available?

A: We offer archival boxes in all standard photograph and document sizes: 4×6", 5×7", 8×10", 11×14", 16×20" (photographs); A4, A3, A2, letter, legal, ledger (documents). Custom dimensions are available with MOQ 1,000. Box depth options range from 30mm (single layer of prints) to 150mm (bulk document storage). We recommend specifying your largest format plus 5mm clearance on all sides for safe insertion and removal.

Q: What’s the minimum order and do you provide material certification?

A: MOQ is 500 units for standard sizes. For custom sizes, MOQ is 1,000 units. Every order ships with a Certificate of Conformance documenting: board lot pH test result, lignin test result, adhesive PAT certificate number, and FSC chain-of-custody documentation. We recommend ordering pre-production samples (7–10 working days) to verify the box dimensions, covering color, and foil stamping quality before full production.
